Australian Wild Abalone Program

The Australian Wild Abalone Program was a research program conducted between 2010 and 2016.  The program undertook a range of education and promotion activities in all of our key markets – Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Australia and China.

Education and promotion activities

The proposed levy will fund a Consumer Education and Promotion (CEP) Program which will have the AWA Certification mark as a cornerstone. It will do activities similar to the ones undertaken by the AWA Program.  Highlights are shown in this video.

Innovative Cuisine Competition and Australian Gourmet Adventure!

The Australian Wild Abalone program worked with the China Cuisine Association in 2015 to conduct a China-wide competition to find the most innovative recipes for Australian wild-caught abalone. The winning chefs together with 25 members of China’s food industry undertook an Australian Wild Abalone Gourmet Adventure in March 2016, where they had an opportunity to witness the wild harvest of our product and to see the industry in action.  Watch the video here.

AWA Certification mark

The certification mark has value in our markets.  It is an effective way to differentiate our beautiful, increasingly rare, wild-caught abalone product from our competitor products.

Fourteen processor/exporters signed up to the program and many are still using the certification mark, developed as part of the AWA program, on their products and documentation today.
